# Base_{42}

**Welcome to the Base42 Wiki!**

This wiki is for those interested in base_{42}. The key concept in base_{42} is that base_{16} digits are constructed from base_{4} symbols. Once you learn the symbols and basic maths in base_{4} you can quickly reconstruct base_{16} numbers and mental calculations. Additionally base42 uses a unique set of glyphs and sounds so that it can coexist peacefully with the base_{10} mental calculations you have already learned. If you squint your eyes that would be base_{16}, but then you'd be missing part of the point.

If you came to this page after seaching for information on hexadecimal, stick around and check things out. The converter program will convert real numbers (instead of just integers) to and from hexadecimal.
